What makes us special?

We think there are lots of things that make us special at Pixley Dell Day Nursery, read on to find out and get in touch with us today

Our ethos

We provide a warm, friendly, secure and stimulating environment in which each child can reach his or her full potential. We aim to provide a wide range of activities and learning experiences which will enable each child the opportunity to develop socially, emotionally, physically and intellectually whilst encouraging self-confidence, independence and respect for themselves and others.

We believe that the welfare, protection, safety, care and education of every child in our setting is paramount, and we aim to provide the very best we can to ensure that each child reaches their full potential and is happy and healthy whilst in our care.

Our setting

Our rooms are carefully designed and organised to encourage independence as much of the equipment is within their own reach. The rooms are neutrally decorated, calm, homely and comfortable. We also have sofas and cushions for curling up for stories or rest, and areas which are perfect for messy and creative play and activities.

We have outside areas that children access every day with lots of outdoor equipment, activities and experiences, perfect for encouraging exploration and curiosity for every age range. Children are taken on outings to the local and surrounding areas and out for walks to know the area close to the setting, visiting shops, the park and the library.

Our menus are thoughtfully planned, varied and nutritious, and all our meals are prepared on-site by our experienced cook. We cater for dietary restrictions due to medical or religious requirements and children are provided with fresh fruits, vegetables and drinks throughout the day.

We pride ourselves on providing a calm and inclusive environment where every child is valued as an individual and families are welcome, ensuring effective partnerships which provide consistent care.

Our staff

Each member of our caring staff is carefully selected through a robust recruitment and selection process and an enhanced DBS check. Once selected, they are provided with a thorough induction process and enabled to settle into our routines, working alongside experienced staff.

Our teams are trained in first aid, health and safety, administering medication, food safety and hygiene, and many other aspects which ensure the safety of everyone with a balanced approach, without stifling children’s natural curiosity and enthusiasm during their learning and play.

Our staff are chosen for their enthusiasm, patience and positive approach. We pride ourselves on our commitment to continuous professional development, ensuring that all staff continue to flourish and grow alongside the children they are caring for.

Our attention to safety and security

We regard the safety, security and welfare of all children, staff, parents and visitors to our setting as paramount. As a part of this, we require everyone to adhere to the safe working practices and policies that we have in place. We have security systems for all our entrances and children can only be collected by authorised adults. Special arrangements can be put in place for others to collect by prior discussion and agreement with the manager only. Staff are not allowed to use personal mobile phones or cameras in the setting and all visitors to the setting are strictly controlled. We work with regulatory bodies, parents and carers to ensure we have a safe, secure and hygienic setting which ensures the welfare of the children in our care whilst also providing them with opportunities to explore and discover and to develop curiosity and enthusiasm during their play, activities and experiences – a balanced approach.

Our key person approach

We ensure that each child has their own key person who will provide them with extra comfort, security and reassurance if necessary and will also keep you updated about your child’s time at the nursery. They are responsible for ensuring that your child’s development is monitored and encouraged, keeping detailed records, ensuring his or her learning journey is up to date and sharing this information confidentially with you. They support your child while they initially settle in and then guide them through enjoying new activities, getting to know them well and sharing in the fun of the nursery day.

Our partnerships with parents and others

We know that parents are a child’s first educators and we need your knowledge about your child to enable us to play our part in further encouraging their educational development. That’s why partnerships with parents and carers are extremely important to us and as part of this, we ensure that we ask for, and pass on information about your child’s time with us every single time they attend our setting.

We provide an online learning journal for your child with lots of photographs, comments and anecdotes which show you just what your child is doing during their time with us and how much they enjoy it. You can access this anytime via a secure password protected app on your mobile, tablet , ipad or computer. You can also add your own photographs and comments, which can be viewed by your childs key person enabling them to have a better knowledge of your child and their developement, ensuring a true partnership between setting and family.
Displays and photographs around the setting show you the kinds of activities that your child participates in.

We also have established links with relevant professionals such as health visitors who can come in to the setting when needed to further support children recognised as needing addditional input, such as speech therapy , family support or additional needs. These relationships are important to us and together, we can provide the consistent, individual care that your child needs and deserves.
